The DRC project by XELTIS LTD is a landmark initiative aimed at transforming the mining landscape in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), one of the world’s most resource-rich regions. Launched in 2020, this project focuses on sustainable mineral extraction, community empowerment, and environmental stewardship in a country known for its vast deposits of cobalt, gold, tin, and other critical minerals. By deploying advanced technologies like NOVA7 and GEOTRACE, the DRC project seeks to address the systemic challenges of illegal mining, environmental degradation, and social inequity, while unlocking the economic potential of the region’s resources.
The DRC project began with the Shabunda (gold) and Walikale (tin) missions in 2020, where XELTIS employed AI-driven mapping to identify mineral deposits with precision. These missions resulted in savings of $450K in operational costs and provided sustainable jobs and infrastructure for 5,000 locals, setting a precedent for responsible mining practices. The project expanded in 2021 to the Katanga region, uncovering cobalt and lithium deposits valued at $41.5K, further demonstrating the efficacy of XELTIS's technologies in optimizing resource extraction while minimizing environmental impact.
A key component of the DRC project is its focus on community development. XELTIS has worked closely with local stakeholders to ensure that mining benefits are shared equitably, providing training programs, healthcare facilities, and educational initiatives. In the 2022 South Kivu project, the DRC initiative supported 7,000 people by creating jobs and mapping coltan deposits worth $465K, all while adhering to strict environmental standards. The project also employs real-time monitoring to combat illegal mining, fostering transparency and accountability in the region’s resource sector.
Looking ahead, the DRC project aims to expand its scope to include rare earth elements and other critical minerals essential for the global transition to renewable energy. By integrating data from NOVA7, GEOTRACE, and local surveys, XELTIS is building a comprehensive resource database for the DRC, which will serve as a model for sustainable mining worldwide. The project’s success underscores XELTIS's commitment to balancing economic growth with social and environmental responsibility, ensuring that the DRC’s mineral wealth benefits its people for generations to come.
